These are the three mast heads designed for the head of the pages, I preferred the top one. To make this, I drew using Sketchbook on and iPad. I used the art elements of lines to show contrast and form patterns and movement, shapes to fill and create space and give the illusion of proportion and scale, texture to show emphasis, and color to allow for unity and harmony.
This peice is a combination of the "moving lines" and "swirling square" projects. It was made using different pressures with a graphite pencil, and different types of lines, curving and straight. The different shades of the lines give the illusion of distance or depth in the image, the lines form shapes, where there are no shapes there is space, and the different shades of the pencil lines give it a sense of color and adds to the depth of the image. The majority of the work is balanced in the center and branches out to the center of the four sides. There is contrast between the curves of the moving lines and the solidness of the swirling squares. Pattern and rhythm show themselves in the swirling squares, all lines whithin each shape moving in the same direction at the same increments. The moving lines appear to grow smaller and larger as they weave around eachother, and each individual one appears unusual, together they form a loose knot at the center. The emotion felt is in the eye of the beholder. It personally feels like serenity, peace in the beauty of the contrast of different concepts. |
